Stanford is your dream university beside the TU Vienna? To attend courses there always was on your dream list but to exclusive and out of reach? You are master student of Civil Engineering or Spatial Planning at the TU Vienna and always wanted to be part of an international team during your master thesis?

Then apply for the Austrian Real Estate Challenge.

Austrian real estate companies like Immofinanz, ÖSW and Simacek Group provide you with the topic for the challenge. It will be in the area of real estate and ask for an innovative solutions and new approaches. Topics will be announced soon. They also sponsor this challenge (course fees, travel costs, etc.).

Out of the applications a group of 4 students is selected. The students will be part of the ME310 course 2020-2021 at Stanford Mechanical Engineering. The selected students will work on this design challenge together with students of the ME310 and the teaching team around Larry Leifer and Alex Redlein. The course is to learn the methodology design thinking on a practical case. First you with the rest of the team define together with the industry partners the “real” problem space. Then you do rapid prototyping to find out more about the problem and the possible solution space (dark horse, funky prototype). Last but not least you implement the funky prototype. You will be at Stanford twice for around two weeks each till next June. In June you present the result in front of an international audience at Stanford EXPE 2021 personally. During the rest of the course you have to work together with the international team virtually and fulfil the deliverables defined by the teaching team. The course on side of the TU Vienna is designed in a way that you can earn your credentials for your Master Thesis out of the work done. The writing of the thesis is to be finished briefly after the final presentation June 2021. In addition you will earn your Masterthesis Seminar. Both course will be supervised by Alex Redlein from TU Vienna. In addition the Stanford teaching team will be your coaches. Learn from the best from both worlds.

So you learn the methodology not only but listening to lectures but by applying it at a practical industry case: Problem based learning at its best
